Our FARM!
Not 1040 Farm got its name from being misidentified as the property across the street. The various mail and package carriers claimed to be "confused" by the even-numbered address of that property, across the road from ours, and the correctly even-numbered address of the homestead. (The other property is on the odd-numbred side of the road.) After many weeks of writing "Not 1040" on pieces of mail and returning packages to the people across the street, the name kind of stuck! The "farm" is actually a 2.5 acre homestead on a larger farm. The goal is to make the homestead as self-sustaining as possible, although we will continue to be dependent on commercial feed for a bit of a while.

Our GOATS!
We are currently raising both LaMancha and Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, with an eye toward developing our own line of Mini Lamancha goats. Mini Lamanchas are rapidly becoming a "thing" for homesteads like ours. They are smaller, eat less, and still produce copious amounts of milk for their size. Right now, we have one registered Mini, but will eventually have a whole herd of them.

Our CHICKENS!
Right now, our flock consists of a pair of Brown Leghorns (white eggs), a few ISA Brown hens (brown eggs), and an Easter Egger rooster named "Yellow," who survived a dog attack. We even have one free range rooster left from our small group of Easter Egger mixes. Eventually, some silkies and some Ameraucana hens might be added to the flock, but it depends on how much time we want to devote to chickens. In addition to the layers, the larger farm also raises an occasional flock of broilers for personal use.

Our QUAIL!
We have one 12-foot-long hutch in which we're starting coturnix quail for additional meat, eggs, and income. We're building a second hutch this fall, in which we'll raise our own strain jumbo coturnix--eventually. Right now, we're just feeling pleased that the quail are surviving and we're waiting for them to start laying eggs for us to hatch this spring.
