Birthdate: July 21, 2021 It is with great delight that I am able to start Artoo's "big boy" show career this year! The two years we were forced to limit our shows (one or two a year!) didn't hurt him at all. Teddies are a slow-maturing breed, so the time off gave him a chance to develop his body and his brain. Instead of the wild and undisciplined puppy that bucked and cantered his way around the ring from three to six months of age, we now had a bold-going and dignified statesman who strode his way around the ring. At around 20 pounds, he was a bit of a challenge to put on the table. However, once there, he was a rock star and stacked to his best advantage. His first show out, a UKC show, had 30+ dogs there (including non-licensed puppies). Even with huge class size, he made his presence known. He might have done better, but many seasoned dogs were in the ring and at times his inexperience was sometimes apparent. This disadvantage was short-lived. Just a few weekds later, we went to an AKC Open show where he competed against dogs from several FSS and Miscellaneous breeds, as well as his own parents. He came away from that show with a Best of Breed, 2 Certificate of Merit points, and a wealth of good experience. Way to go, Artoo! At the moment, we have only one more show planned for this year (although I may be doing some obedience competition, besides). This one will be big, with many classes for both Teddies and my wonderful Toy Fox Terriers. I am hoping to enter Artoo in both the regular (Miscellaneous) class and the Open FSS show, as well as having him dip his feet into the Rally ring. I am hoping that he/we will make a splash in both UKC and AKC conformation and obedience rings for 2024. Artoo still does not have an Embark profile of his own (both Teddy Roosevelt Terrier clubs recommend Embark profiles for breeders' dogs), but one should be available in or around October 2023.In the mean time, Pip's profile and Diva's profile are available for viewing. |
