Southern Homestead Kennel Pandorium Dancer

Birthdate: November 6, 2017

Panda is something of a new venture for me. Not only was I completely unfamiliar with English shepherds when I contacted her breeder, I was also unfamiliar with the entire concept of "working dog" as opposed to "pet/conformation/performance dog." When I held that little puppy in my arms for the first time, I desperatly wanted to bond with her instead of letting her bond with my animals first. Fortunately, I gave into my good sense and let her be what she needed to be and to be my goats' best friend. I'm not a good working dog trainer, but she had a good enough instinct to understand what her job should be and is ever watchful around them, looking for animals that might wander onto the property and be a threat to her charges.

I have been working a little bit on-leash with Panda and she is somewhat crate trained. Does that add up to "conformation shows next year?" I think it might, as I have seen field-trained ES in the UKC conformation ring and I think that she matches up in terms of quality and behavior. I'd like to get points on her, at least, before she is bred. I'd also like to manage to get her a little herding training prior to that time.

Panda has been tested for both MDR1 and Collie Eye Anomaly. She is clear of both. She will have her hips and elbows evaluated this December and the remainder of her genetic testing will be completed before she is bred next year. I am looking to have her bred to an English shepherd from working lines, to ensure that these dogs retain their working dog capabilities.
