Yuma News!

Wow! Yuma's first AKC outing could only be considered a success! She not only took the eight-hour ride to Athens, TX in stride, but she also handled the cold weather on Saturday like a professional show dog! She shivered a bit at first and didn't like the cold concrete under her paws, but I don't think she met a stranger from the second she got there till the second she left.

Yuma went into the 4-6 Month puppy ring as the only TFT puppy--a shame, but not disappointing considering I wanted her to get as much experience as possible. She strutted around all happy and perky and really showed off for the judge. Alas, the judge decided the Shih Tzu puppy showed just a little better in the Toy Group (after not showing well in breed) and Yuma was done for the morning. She celebrated by eating all the bait we'd brought for her--silly puppy--while I was off helping Kathleen in the breed ring.

Saturday night, Yuma competed against Kathleen's Tez in the B Match. Tez is a terrific dog, but she does hate the cold. Yuma was still being her puppy-self, showing like a pro, and eked out a win over Tez. She went on to compete in the Toy Group, taking a Group 4 over some much older dogs as the match was not divided between adults and puppies. She went home and got some much-needed sleep, after chewing a happypuppy deer shoulder blade.

Sunday was just an amazing day. Yuma did not show until 1:50 in the afternoon, so we had a leisurely morning at Kathleen's house. After determining that we didn't win anything at the raffle, Kathleen and I did a little lead shopping for Yuma's special grown-up lead. After finding the absolutely perfect one, we headed over to the ring. By some miracle, Yuma beat some VERY nice toy group puppies and won a Toy Group 1! There was no love for Yuma in Puppy Best in Showland, but the judge did like her and complimented her ability to gait well. It was a super ending to a stellar weekend.

Watch for Yuma in Springfield, MO (November 7-10), Longview, TX (November 17), and Canton, TX (Thanksgiving weekend). She's on a whirlwind tour before a break until January 2020.

Yuma's first grown-up show was a bit disappointing, but WOW she got a lot of experience! Four days, all in the frozen North, surrounded by ice and snow, as well as A LOT of really nice Toy Fox Terriers. She showed well and came away with a Reserve Winners Bitch award (Friday) to a five-point major--not bad for a puppy just barely six months old! Once again, she traveled well, despite a long trip, and came away as enthusiastic about shows as she began. Little Miss Yuma is definitely a winner!

Yuma's first UKC show went MUCH better than her previous outing. Although she only attended the UKC Texas Classic in Longview, TX for only one day, she came away with a significant number of championship points (20!) and the first of the three competition wins that she needs! Thank you Kathleen Chance and Judge Janet Fink!
